Artisans adorn a narrow gourd that contains stones and has a goatskin base with an owl design using traditional fire-burning techniques. The 8-inch tall instrument is both a shaker and a drum.
There are more than 235 Volunteers in Peru working with their communities on projects in the environment, community economic development, health, and youth development. This instrument is made for Jamtown a fair trade company with a vision of people in North America creating music with friends and family. Their instruments are special, authentic, and beautifully crafted. Each is handmade ~ from countries all over the world. Artisans utilize ancient knowledge and natural, sustainable materials like bamboo, gourds, and seeds. As a member of the Fair Trade Federation they work with small producer groups from developing countries and provide important support to low-income families through fair wages and other valuable assistance.
